1. Brief Introduction to the Legal Aid Center
Xiamen Legal Aid Center (hereafter referred to as'Center') is a special agency set up after being approved by Xiamen People's Government. It is under the jurisdiction of Xiamen Judicial Bureau and is in charge of the organization, coordination, implementation and supervision of Xiamen legal aid. The Center was set up on Oct.16, 1998.
The purpose of legal aid is to carry out the legal principle that all are equal before the law and to ensure that the party in economic difficulty and the party of special case enjoy fair and equal judicial protection. The following are within the scope of the 'Center':
1) The criminal case whose defense is designated by court according to legal provisions;
2) The civil case and non-contentious legal matter which claim for payments for support of parents, payment for the upbringing of children, and payment for support and assistance for former spouse
3) The case and non-contentious case which claim for labor insurance, pensions, relief payment, and payment for labor;
4) Civil case and supplementary civil actions in criminal proceedings which claim for compensation for the harm caused by fault of the other party;
5) Administrative case claiming for the national compensation;
6) Legal facts or legal relations which demand notarization;
7) Other items which require legal aid.
