The “Kulangsu Historical International Settlement" was inscribed on the World Heritage Cultural List in 2017, thus the number of world heritage sties in China had increased to 52, the number of Fujian world heritage sties rose to 4 and Xiamen has its world heritage site now. 42 cultural performances and exchange activities like Xiamen Summit Sail for the Future Art and Cultural Show, Southern Fujian and Fujian Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition and BRICS Cultural Festival were successfully held here. The 10th Cross-strait Culture & Creative Industry Fair, the 13th Cross-strait Book Fair, the 2017 China (Xiamen) Lacquer Paintings Exhibition, the 10th Cross-strait Original Southern Fujian Song Contest and other culture brand activities were also held here. The Xiamen gaojia opera Twa-Tiu-Tiann was granted the “Five First Projects Award” in the 14th spiritual civilization construction by the Propaganda Department. And its script of Twa-Tiu-Tiann won the sixth China Drama Award & Cao Yu Drama Play Script Prize. The group dance "Artists in Cuoli" from Xiamen arts school won the first prize at the opening ceremony of 2017 National Vocational Students Skills Competition & 2017 Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture and Art Competition. The TV works of Xiamen Radio and Television Group –Listen to Voices across the Strait with Chen Ling – take pictures for the 85-year-old grandfather also won the first prize of 2016 China News Award.
The city has 226 cultural relics protection units (262 points), including 7 national key units of cultural relics protection (34 points), 39 provincial-level units (45 points), 110 city-level units (113 points), 70 county-level (district-level) units (70 points) and 88 Taiwan cultural relics and historic sites. Jimei Village and Zhongshan Road are recognized as Fujian’s historical and culture blocks. The Foreign Cultural Relics Museum of Gulangyu Palace Museum was officially opened. At present, among 64 city-level or above intangible cultural heritage projects, 1 is world-class human oral and intangible heritage, 11 are national-level projects and 28 are provincial-level projects. The number of intangible cultural heritage representative inheritors amounted to 113, including 10 national-level ones and 55 provincial-level one. There are 7 public culture centers, 10 public libraries and 11 museums and memorials registered by Bureau of Fujian Cultural Relics. In the year 2017, a total of 7 types of newspaper, 25 kinds of magazines and 13 kinds of overseas Chinese publication were issued. Altogether there are 7 sets of broadcasting programs and 7 sets of TV programs, 44 cinemas with 271 screens that altogether pocketed 472 million yuan at the box office by 2017. A total of 7348 films were released screened in the rural and community public welfare squares.
