In 2019, Xiamen reported a regional GDP of 599.5 billion yuan ($84.24 billion), a year-on-year growth of 7.9 percent. The added value of primary industry was 2.65 billion yuan, growing by 0.7 percent; that of secondary industry was 249.4 billion yuan, up 9.7 percent; that of tertiary industry was 347.5 billion yuan, up 6.6 percent. The ratio of primary to secondary to tertiary industry was 0.4:41.6:58.
Mainstream industries in Xiamen include the six pillar industries of electronics, machinery, shipping and logistics, MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions), finance and commerce, and software and information services. The city has six emerging industries: information technology, biology and new medicines, new materials, energy conservation and environmental science, marine high-tech industry, and cultural and creative industry.
By the end of 2019, Xiamen was home to 2,110 industrial enterprises above a designated size, including 753 with output value exceeding 100 million yuan.
In 2019, the added value of Xiamen's high-tech industry saw an increase of 10.4 percent year-on-year. The output generated by the two pillar industries, machinery and electronics, accounted for 68.8 percent of the total output of all industrial establishments with annual sales income exceeding 20 million yuan.
Currently, three manufacturing industrial chains of 100 billion yuan have taken shape in the city – panel display, computers and communications equipment, and mechanical equipment – which in 2019 posted year-on-year growth of 10.4 percent, 2.4 percent and 3.4 percent.
Xiamen is the largest producer and exporter of tungsten products in the world, the largest producer of hearing aids and hearing equipment in the Asia-Pacific region and a major computer exporter and aircraft maintenance center in China.
Xiamen is one of China's biggest producers and sellers of digital audiovisual devices, capacitors, integrated circuit lead frames, relays and optoelectronic equipment.
The city is home to many famous national and international brand names such as Xoceco (Prima), Amoi, XGMA, King Long, Topstar, Cheng Shin, Yinlu, Huierkang, Gulong, Yinxiang, Wish and New Wish. Xiamen has gained competitive advantages in the country in various sectors, including engineering machinery, power distribution equipment, large and medium-sized buses, tungsten product processing and aircraft maintenance.
