The 2017 Chinese New Year Trend Report and Popularity Ranking, jointly released by China Tourism Academy and Ctrip.com, showed that Xiamen was ranked the second most popular destination for domestic tourists during the 2017 CNY golden week.
According to the statics, during the 7-day holiday, Xiamen received a total of 2,252,200 tourists from home and abroad, up 15.5% year-on-year. Revenue generated by this tourism surge hit 2.4 billion yuan, up by 17.69%.
In 2016, there were 112,200 guest rooms with 169,900 beds in Xiamen. The average occupancy rate for restaurants and hotels reached 79.7 percent during the week-long holiday, and the highest occupancy rate reached 98.5 percent on January 31st.
Because of the rapid development of high-speed trains in China, more tourists chose to travel by train. The number of tourists coming to Xiamen by train was 447,000, with 247,000 traveling by air, an increase of 19.3% and 3.6% respectively. Additionally, 492,900 visitors chose to drive to Xiamen themselves for the week-long holiday.
Gulangyu Island and Zengcuo’an Village were the most popular scenic spots with a total of 414,000 and 738,000 individual visits.
During the week-long Spring Festival holiday, Fujian Province received 18,637,200 tourists, an increase of 20.8% compared to last year, with a total tourism revenue of 12,974 billion yuan, an increase of 25.1% year-on-year.
