Xiamen's fitness equipment manufacturing industry is surging and the Fujian province city currently lays claim to producing 60 percent of the world's treadmills. According to Sunnews.cn, the city accrued in excess of $900 million in 2016 from exporting fitness equipment.

The city became approved as a demonstration site for manufacturing fitness equipment in 2015 and now accounts for one fourth of China's annual exports in this industry sector. Xiamen boast product lines that strive to meet worldwide market demands and the industry has access to 120 nations and regions, with the United States, Japan, and Germany proving key overseas markets.

The export of treadmill units, parts, and accessories brought $240 million and the export of massage equipment also saw market dominance with 70 percent of the national total, adding an impressive $320 million. Additionally, rehabilitative appliances and other fitness equipment raked in $344 million.

Wang Xing, vice general manager of Xiamen K-Power Sports Co, said Xiamen manufacturers take advantage of the complete industrial chain, the high level of technology, and the low production costs to provide international clients with high quality goods and capture a wide range of markets.

With its largest market in Europe, K-Power supplies sporting equipment to 90 countries. The company caters its products to specific areas depending on regional demands and customs.

Another fitness equipment producer, Xiamen Evere Sports Goods Co earned the majority of its profits through the sale of home fitness products. The company has gained a strong reputation in Switzerland, the United States of America and South Korea, with the foreign markets making up 90 percent of the company's sales, according to its general manager Fang Junxiong.

Fang said foreign consumers are often well-informed about fitness and are both willing and able to afford better products that are safe, smooth, and durable. However, while the profits made through these foreign channels are welcome revenue to managers such as Fang, companies are waiting for the swell in demand from the domestic market.

Xiamen continues to be a key hub in the manufacturing of fitness equipment and hopes to capitalize as the health and fitness consciousness of domestic consumers develops.
