The renovation under way at Xiamen's cruise home port is scheduled to finish by the end of March. Slated for trial operation in the middle of the year, the new port will feature a greater reception capacity that will make it one of Asia's largest cruise ship ports.
According to project officials, the port will feature three additional berths that can simultaneously dock a 150,000-ton cruise ship and two 80,000-ton cruise liner. When used alone, the largest berth will be able to accommodate a 220,000-ton cruise ship, which is the largest of its kind.
Last year, the Xiamen cruise home port received a record-high 79 cruise ships and more than 200,000 passengers, an increase of 14 percent year-on-year.
