The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen hosted a dinner reception last Wednesday to commemorate the 119th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence. City and provincial representatives joined local and Filipino guests at the event. Reception activities included a speech by consul general Julius Caesar Aragon Flores. A concert by the Nightingales duo and by violinist J.C. Joya followed the dinner.
"The Philippines remains one of the strongest performers among the major economies in Asia," said Mr. Flores at the event. "We seek close ties and cooperation with our neighbors," he added. "Only last month, our president Duterte attended the Belt and Road Forum for international cooperation in Beijing."
Mr. Flores also noted the consulate's role in promoting the exchange and cooperation in trade, culture, education and tourism. He expressed his hope to further strengthen bilateral ties.
