The eighth Xiamen Design Week kicked off at Red Dot Design Museum in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on Nov 30, which will last until the end of December, according to local media reports.
The event highlights a main forum, an award ceremony for the Contemporary Good Design, or CGD, an international design award organized by Red Dot since 2015, three exhibitions and more than 30 supporting activities.
"The so-called good design should combine functionality, attraction, user-friendliness and design responsibility," said Peter Zec, founder and CEO of world-leading design award Red Dot, at the main forum.
Among the 873 CGD entries, 14 received gold awards at the award ceremony and 160 also carried home awards for their outstanding design.
These award-winning designs are expected to be on display at the Red Dot Design Museum throughout the entire event.
Meanwhile, the 2019-2020 Red Dot Product Design Award-Winners Exhibition made its global debut after the result was announced, which, apart from the prize-winning works, showcased more than 600 design works from over 60 countries and involving 400 brands.
One of the supporting activities Make It Happen design workshop is accessible to professional young designers and artists who will explore how to transform their creative ideas into real products.
They will also wander about the streets in Xiamen to observe local designs while sharing their point of views about them in a bid to find a better way to improve the existing residential communities.
The design week was sponsored by Xiamen Municipal Government, Red Dot Institute and China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Light Industrial Products and Arts-Crafts and organized by Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce and Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology.
